Repairs that Auto Insurance Covers

Most states expect you to have auto insurance. In states that require it, you typically need to buy the lowest amount of specific parts of auto insurance policies, like liability insurance. It's optional to buy the comprehensive and collision coverage components of auto insurance, which are the two insurance types you will use for vehicle repairs.
Collision Coverage and Repairs
Collision insurance provides coverage for car damages due to accidents, regardless of who was to blame. For instance, if you failed to keep a grip on your vehicle while tinkering with the stereo and hit a power post, collision insurance would cover the mishap. It would likewise cover your vehicle repairs in case you're the driver-to-blame in a car collision that causes damage to your car. In contrast, your liability insurance would cover harm to the next driver's vehicle.

Comprehensive Coverage and Repairs
Comprehensive insurance provides coverage not related to car crashes, like harm from falling items (like a tree limb), vandalism, certain natural disasters, and fire.

Some different hazards comprehensive coverage covers include:
  • Animal harm (if rodents eat your vehicle's wiring or you hit a deer)
  • Theft
  • Glass damage
  • Hail

Essentially, comprehensive coverage shields you from damage that happens when you're not driving your vehicle. So, if somebody scratches your vehicle, your comprehensive insurance will provide for the repairs required. Or say that hail cracks your windshield; the same insurance policy will also provide coverage for the repairs.

What is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance?
Some insurance agencies offer MBI to compensate for standard repairs. The state does not require it, and it's usually not included in normal auto insurance policies. Furthermore, older vehicles may not be qualified for inclusion under MBI; the couple of insurance agencies that offer MBI, also called auto repair insurance, only provide coverage to new vehicles and those under a specific mileage sum.

Conclusion
Auto insurance doesn't cover standard repairs. However, it does provide coverage for repairs you need to make due to bad weather, vandalism, or accidents. In case you're stressed over how you'd have to manage the cost of those repair types, try to consider adding comprehensive and collision insurance to your car insurance policy.

I liked it when you said that comprehensive insurance can cover incidents like theft and natural disasters. My husband and I will be buying a new Toyota car in March for our daily commute to work. We are hoping to find an insurance agency on Friday that can explain to us the best coverage we can get to prevent financial problems in case of a natural disaster like a flood or earthquake.

It's also a good idea to consider whether you can afford a costly repair if one becomes necessary. If you can, you may not need MBI coverage at all. However, if paying for repairs out of pocket would put a strain on your finances, consider purchasing some sort of coverage.

Most states have laws that require drivers to have some form of auto insurance. The minimum amount of coverage required varies from state to state, but it is typically enough to cover the cost of damages caused by an accident. If you do not have auto insurance and you are involved in an accident, you may be required to pay for the damages yourself. In some states, you may also be subject to fines or other penalties.
