“My relationship with Desmond Insurance has been a real asset for my business! Because
I'm frequently bidding on new and differing paint jobs, I periodically require insurance
adjustments (workers comp changes, increased limits of insurance,
etc.). I'm also always in need of insurance certificates. The team at Desmond Insurance
has been great on all counts. In fact, my certificate requests are usually executed
within just a few minutes. Thanks again to the Desmond Insurance team
for your attention to my needs and quick, friendly service.”

Recommended Painters Insurance Coverages
Insurance for painters or wall covering contractors falls into four general categories:
- The first is property insurance. This includes
the offices, as well as yards for storage or - in the case of more
extensive shops - dip tanks, spray booths and the like.
- The second is inland marine coverage. This insurance
covers a contractor’s tools and equipment, paints and materials in transit or on the job site,
and installation exposures. In addition to brushes, rollers and other
hand tools, there may be sprayers, ladders, scaffolding, cherry pickers, and similar
equipment.
- The third is premesis liability. Liability exposure
is a concern both at the contractor's yard and the job site. If there is
a storage yard or shop operation, the potential fire hazard affects not only the insured but
also neighboring businesses or homes. Job-site exposures include the potential of
injury to the public or to employees of other contractors plus the potential of
damage to others property or completed work.
- The last is protection for worker injuries because these
operations are susceptible to workers comp losses.
Note:
Auto insurance is almost always required of painters and other contractors.
How else would you and your equipment make it to the job site. Also keep in mind,
your personal auto policy
will not cover losses from work related indicents.
Optional Painters Insurance Coverages to Consider
Business Income with Extra Expense - If something happens to your shop like
a fire, a theft or a natural disaster, it is important to keep paying your bills
and your employees. It might also be necessary to set up shop in another building
or yard. This coverage will make sure ongoing bills and wages are paid. Extra Expense
coverage will allow you to temporarily set up shop elsewhere until repairs are made.
Environmental Impairment Liability - These hazards are very serious, and
arise from the application or removal, transport, and disposal of paints, solvents,
and other chemicals. One very significant and increasingly prominent exposure is
lead paint. Although the application of lead paint is now a controlled substance,
this type of paint is still available and approved for specific commercial and industrial
applications.
Excess and Umbrella Coverages - Paint products could injure or imapair many
people in many different places. Because the dollar impact of the damages can be
catastrophic to a painter, additional excess or umbrella limits
of insurance are recommended.
